The Annual California Dropout Prevention Conference - Ready To Learn: Helping Students Survive and Thrive

Introduction

October 19—22, 2008
Town & Country Resort,
San Diego, CA

This conference was created for educators who are dedicated to helping at-risk students achieve success. Topics and sessions are reviewed and selected by professionals who are currently in the field working with at-risk youth. We strive to provide a conference that gives participants the strength-based strategies and skills they need to inspire at-risk students to stay in school and graduate. All sessions and topics work together to help transform schools into caring communities for all students, from kindergarten to high school.

Conference sessions include the following topics:

  • Family and Community Collaboration
  • Instructional Strategies
  • Safety and Violence Prevention
  • Best Practices, featuring Shining Star Schools*
  • Engaging At-Risk Students
  • Comprehensive Student Support Strategies
  • Sessions for Foster Youth Coordinators
  • Sessions for CASCWA members
  • Sessions for grades K-12

This year the Southern Section of CASCWA (California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance) and Foster Youth Services Coordinators will join the Ready to Learn Conference. Both organizations will have sessions that focus on their particular areas of interest. Because topic relevancy overlaps, all sessions will be open to all participants.

*What is a Shining Star School?
SB65 Comprehensive Student Support schools that scored well in this year's annual peer review of their application and showed significant gains in academic improvement by meeting their API and AYP targets were designated Shining Stars. These schools will be presenting throughout the conference so that you can hear firsthand how they achieved their outstanding results.
